The fire started on March 5, 2009, with this photograph being taken two weeks to the day after. Dunken is only a geographical reference, as this grassland fire along Highway 82 is best described as “the middle of nowhere”. While this fire was human-caused, it was determined that arson was not the case and the 17,000 acres of grass and yucca will most likely completely re-generate over the course of one year. Surprisingly, grassland fires are the most deadly and move with the quickest momentum, often ferociously burning out in a number of minutes due to the small amount of combustible vegetation.
